Visiting Takuma Oyster Farm and thinking about how to interact with the sea sustainably.

詫間牡蠣から考える持続可能な里海づくり
We will visit oyster workshops and oyster rafts in Takuma Town, Mitoyo City, an oyster producing area in Kagawa Prefecture. This is a work experience program to think about how to create a sustainable ocean.

At the work site, an oyster farmer will explain the work site equipment and the history of the oyster farming business in the region. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience seasonal operations.

After the tour of the workshop, we will be escorted by an oyster farmer by boat to the rafts where the oysters are actually suspended. There, we will observe the oysters growing without the use of fertilizers or chemicals, only the nutrients of the sea.
By visiting the actual location of the rafts, which is the mouth of the Takase River, visitors will also experience the connection between the mountains, the river, and the sea.
