Sanuki Kagari Temari (traditional Japanese handmade handball, embroidered balls)

讃岐かがり手まり
Sanuki Kagari-Temari, a traditional craft of Kagawa Prefecture, is made by hand, one by one, from cotton threads dyed by hand with natural vegetable dyes. "Nioi Temari (aromatic temari)", with its core of firigara filled with fragrant wood and natural aroma, is popular as a gift because of its aroma. In the Edo period (1603-1867), temari was popular all over Japan, but after World War II, its makers and traditions died out, and for a time the technique was almost lost in Kagawa Prefecture as well, but it was revived thanks to the efforts of many people. Even today, the soft roundness and beauty of the subdued coloring attracts people.
