Shikoku’s oldest school from the Meiji period
Kaimei School was a symbol of a new epoch, upon opening many people visited to see the modern building with white walls, arched windows and imported foreign-made glass. Nowadays the building is a museum with displays of approximately 6,000 valuable items including textbooks from the Meiji through to the early Showa periods. Visitors can even experience a lesson as taught back when the school opened (booking required). The Shingi-do, a private school and predecessor to the Kaimei School, is also located on the site.
