The Kotohiki Hachimangu Festival, held every year in late October at the top of Mt. Kotohiki, is a heroic festival in which 9 drums weighing up to 3 tons are paraded through the city.
The highlight of the festival is the parade of beautifully dressed children, based on the myth of how Kotohiki Hachimangu Shrine came to be.
At night, the drums are decorated with lights, glittering in the darkness of the night, the sound of taiko drums can be heard, and the town is crowded with people.
