Awa Washi, produced in Yoshinogawa City, Naga Town and Ikeda Town, Tokushima Prefecture, is a traditional handmade Japanese paper that has been made for over 1,300 years. Made from plant fibers such as kozo (paper mulberry) and mitsumata, each sheet is carefully crafted using the "Nagashi-zuki" and "Tame-zuki" techniques. Characterized by its beautiful raw texture and thin but strong water-resistant paper, it is used for a wide range of purposes, including calligraphy paper, interior decorating, and artwork. In recent years, new possibilities have been opened up by combining traditional techniques with modern technology. Designated as a national traditional craft, its history and techniques have been handed down to the present day.
