Awa Sho-Ai Shijiraori is a cotton fabric born in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, characterized by the beautiful indigo-dyed colors and the unique unevenness “shibo” on the surface of the fabric. The shibo gives the fabric a light and cool feel, and it has been popular for summer kimonos and yukata (summer kimono). Inspired by a kimono that shrank after being soaked in a shower during the Meiji period (1868-1912), this fabric is produced using superior techniques and experience. In recent years, it has been used not only for kimonos and yukatas, but also for neckties, handkerchiefs, and a variety of other items, making it a casual, everyday favorite of many people. It is designated as a national traditional craft.
