Built in the home town of the creator of Anpanman, Yanase Takashi, this is an art gallery where children and adults alike can find enjoyment. In the fourth-floor gallery, you can see exhibits of original artwork for picture books and large tableaus featuring Anpanman painted by Yanase Takashi himself. In the underground Anpanman World, you can see dioramas reproducing the streetscapes of the town where Anpanman and his friends live. In the adjoining Poem & Märchen Gallery, you can see exhibits of original covers of “Poem & Märchen” (Shi to Meruhen), the magazine Yanase Takashi served as chief editor for, as well as other non-Anpanman works by Yanase Takashi. In addition, the museum holds exhibits of poems, illustrations, and original works by picture book authors from Japan and around the world.
