Learn About the Environment and Disaster Prevention at Japan's Only Tsunami Evacuation Shelter.

日本唯一の津波避難シェルターを活用した環境・防災学習
Muroto City is recognized as Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark. The city utilizes the geological features of global importance for tourism, education, and town planning, while preserving them.
The Muroto Peninsula used to be at the bottom of the sea, but earthquakes and other movements of the earth formed the Muroto of today.
In this programme, participants learn about natural disasters in the region caused by the earth's movements and how to prepare for them by visiting three different sites.

【Programme Outline】
1. Guided Tour at Cape Muroto (50 minutes)
Learning the story of the earth behind the views from Cape Muroto.

2. Classroom lecture at the Muroto Global Geopark Centre (30 minutes)
Learning about natural disasters and blessings.

3. Guided Tour to the Tsuro Tsunami Evacuation Shelter (30 minutes)
Learning about the Japan's first tsunami evacuation shelter while assuming evacuation.

In the Environmental Disaster Prevention Programme, students can learn more specialised knowledge through guides specialising in different fields.
The programme also provides an opportunity to think not only about disasters in Muroto, but also about possible disasters based on the topography and geology around their own school, which will help them in their subsequent disaster management studies.
