This programme visits a mountain orchard that has been carefully passed down through the generations since the owner's grandfather's time.
Human intervention is essential for maintaining the environment of Japan's biodiversity-rich foothills and arable plains. Using tangerines and other fruits as a subject, participants learn about the farmers' thoughts and hardships, how their daily work is linked to food safety and security, and about sustainable fruit tree cultivation.
【Programme Outline】
■Classroom lecture and tour (60 minutes)
・Talks about the annual work in the orchard and maintaining the mountain for generations, sharing the farmer's passion for fruit.
・Visits to the fruit-sorting plant (seasonal help with the work).
■Fieldwork (90 minutes)
・Help with farm work (depending on season).
Pruning and weeding, pollination, bagging, removing bags, harvesting, etc.
■Classroom lecture (30 minutes)
・Summary Lecture
・Student presentations on their impressions and goals.
・Time required for the programme: 3 hours
