Awa dance is a traditional dance that Tokushima is proud to present to the world, and is said to have a history of over 400 years.
Today, Awa dance is held in many places in Japan such as Koenji (Tokyo) and Minami-Koshigaya (Saitama) as part of the city's revitalization, but in Tokushima City, the home of Awa dance, it is one of the most popular events in Japan, attracting more than one million tourists from Japan and abroad during August 12 to 15 every year.
The city also has an Awaodori Kaikan in the center of the city where visitors can enjoy the Awa dance all year round, so Tokushima is a great place to experience the charm of the Awa dance at any time of the year.
