The cooking method, "tataki," was developed by the fishermen to eat fresh skipjack tuna on the boat. Originally, tataki was introduced by fishermen when they ate it as their makanai (staff meal). It is gradually spread to the general public and now can be found in various places such as izakaya (Japanese-style taverns) and direct sales shops.
