Shimanto River

四万十川
The longest river in Shikoku (total length 196km) that originates from Mt. Irazu in Tsuno Town and flows through Nakatosa Town, Shimanto Town, and Shimanto City.
This river is called the "last clear stream" and traditional fishing methods such as fire-shaking fishing and shibazuke fishing are still practiced.
Many of the bridges leading from upstream to downstream of the river are constructed without parapets to prevent them from sinking below the surface and being swept away when the water rises.
