Ennmannji Temple

円満寺
A Giant Guardian Jizo of Dogo
This temple, with Amida Nyorai as its main deity, is said to have been founded in 812. In front of the main hall is a Buddhist hall that houses a large, white-painted Jizo Bosatsu statue, 3.67 meters tall. This brightly colored statue is said to have been carved from a large camphor tree by Gyōki, a Buddhist monk who visited Dogo Onsen. When the hot spring water stopped flowing in 1855, people prayed to this Jizo statue and the water started to flow again, which is why it is now known as the "Yu no Daichizo Bosatsu" (Great Jizo Bodhisattva of the Hot Spring).
