Ruins of Yuzuki Castle

湯築城跡
Ruins of the castle of successive generations of the Kono clan revived in modern times
A medieval castle of the Kono clan, the governor of Iyo Province (*), a flat mountain castle built to take advantage of the terrain.
*Iyo is the former name of Ehime Prefecture.
It was built 40 years earlier than Azuchi Castle (*), which had a double moat and earthen mounds, and also had a residential area inside the castle, a structure typical of early modern castles.
*Asuchi Castle was built by Nobunaga Oda, a famous Japanese military commander.
The castle was selected as one of the 100 best castles in Japan for its historical value as a rare example of a large-scale moat and earthen mound from the middle of the Warring States Period that still remains in good condition.
Currently, a faithfully restored samurai residence, a museum, an earthen mound exhibition room, and an observatory at the top of the mountain are being maintained.
