Japan's oldest maritime fortress
The ruins of Japan's oldest naval castle, said to have been built in 671 in preparation for the invasion of the Tang forces.
On high tide days from April to July, a sandy beach 10 to 30 meters wide sometimes appears for a few hours and becomes a road connecting the island to Omishima.
Many people visit every year to see this mystical moment and the ruins that are usually unseen on the seafloor.
With ancient ruins lying at the bottom of the sea and a divine road, it is a spot overflowing with historical romance.
