A natural fortress protected by fierce currents
The ruins of a sea castle remain on two uninhabited islands, Nohshima and Taizakijima, with a circumference of 720 meters, located between Oshima and Hakatajima.
The castle is said to have been built in 1419 as the headquarters of the “Noshimamurakami Pirates,” who were a great power in the Seto Inland Sea, and is designated as a national historic site.
The violent tidal currents that functioned as a natural outer moat can be experienced today at the “Tidal Current Experience.
On the island, round pillar holes, dog runways, and other remains remain, making it a spot where visitors can ponder the historical romance of pirates.
