The Old Goten Water Source (Takamatsu City Waterworks Museum) is the site of the water purification plant that brought modern water supply to Takamatsu City. 1921 saw the start of water supply as the 40th modern waterworks in Japan, greatly improving the lives of Takamatsu citizens, and in 1985 was selected by the then Ministry of Health and Welfare (1985) as one of the In 1985, it was selected as one of the “100 Best Modern Waterworks” by the then Ministry of Health and Welfare.

The attraction of this facility is that the Taisho era buildings have been preserved almost exactly as they were. Particularly eye-catching is the pump station, with its white walls and blue window frames, which was built in 1917 and is designated as a National Tangible Cultural Property. In addition to the pumping station, there are many other buildings of great historical value, including an office, a warehouse, and a water collection and burial culvert (Shusui Maikeikyo Tohohojinko).
Today, the pumping station is used as the Takamatsu City Waterworks Museum, where visitors can learn about the history of Takamatsu City's waterworks starting from the Edo period.
With its beautiful architecture, valuable materials, and a place to learn about water, the Old Goten Water Source is an important facility that conveys the history and culture of Takamatsu.
